Selecting the Right Location: Choose a location that provides at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Climbing roses thrive in full sun, which promotes healthy growth and abundant flowering.
Proper Support: Install a sturdy support structure such as a trellis, arbor, pergola, or fence before planting your climbing rose. Ensure it is strong enough to support the eventual size and weight of the rose plant.
Planting: Dig a hole wide and deep enough to accommodate the root ball of the rose plant. Position the plant so that the bud union (the swollen area where the rose was grafted onto the rootstock) is level with or slightly above the soil surface. Backfill the hole with soil, gently firming it around the roots.
Watering: Provide regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Deep watering once or twice a week is generally sufficient. Water at the base of the plant, avoiding wetting the foliage to prevent disease. Increase watering during dry spells or hot weather.
Mulching: Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the climbing rose plant to conserve moisture, suppress weed growth, and regulate soil temperature. Maintain a mulch depth of 2-3 inches, keeping it a few inches away from the stems to prevent rot.
