Areca palm plant big size
Temperature: Areca palms prefer temperatures between 65F and 75F (18C to 24C). They can tolerate slightly lower temperatures, but avoid exposing them to cold drafts or temperatures below 55F (13C).
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil to dry out before watering again. Watering once a week during the growing season and reducing it to every two weeks during the dormant period is a good guideline. Adjust the frequency based on the moisture retention of your specific soil and environmental conditions.
Humidity: Areca palms appreciate humidity. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly or placing a tray of water near the plant to enhance moisture in the surrounding air. You can also use a humidifier.
Soil: Well-draining soil is essential for Areca palms. Use a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and sand to create a loose and well-draining potting mix. It should retain moisture without becoming waterlogged.
Pruning: Trim off any brown or yellowing leaves regularly to maintain the plant's appearance. If the plant becomes too tall or leggy, you can prune the stems to the desired height. Make clean cuts just above a leaf node using sterilized pruning shears.
Repotting: Areca palms appreciate being slightly root-bound, so repotting is typically necessary every two to three years. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one, as excessive pot size can retain too much moisture and lead to root rot.
Pests and diseases: Watch out for common pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Treat any infestations promptly with appropriate insecticidal soap or horticultural oil.
